Spring 2024 Rehearsal Homework Notes
1/14/2024 – from Sheila
Dear Friends:
I look forward to gathering with you for our first rehearsal of 2024 this coming Wednesday night. We will meet in our usual place, the chapel in Chapin Hall at Amherst College.
Our rehearsal time is 7 pm to 9:15. If you can come early this week, by ten or 15 minutes, you can begin the process of picking up the music that will be set up in the classroom across the hall from the chapel.
We have a lot to do in the next few weeks! We will read through many pieces from which we will choose our final concert repertoire. We also need to reclaim, or learn anew, the piece “Going for Water,” by Ron Perera, for his memorial concert on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3 PM in Sweeney Concert Hall at Smith College. Kathryn Aubry MacAvoy reminded me that the version on Ron’s website is us – from our premier of his piece. Here is a link to that performance:
I hope you will listen to it to get it in your head!
One more note. We have had quite a bit of back and forth with Illuminati regarding the dates of our concert, and the conflict that arose when they scheduled their Brahms Requiem performance on the same weekend. Ours was on the shared Pioneer Valley Choral calendar first. They have tried very hard to move things around to make it so that we are not performing simultaneously. The only way to make it work is for us to move our Friday concert to Saturday night. Our concert dates are now Saturday, May 11 in the evening in Amherst, and Sunday, May 12, in the afternoon in Greenfield. This does cause a conflict with the Pioneer Valley Symphony Chorus on Saturday night. My apologies that this has become such an issue.
Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday!
Best –
Sheila
